Photos Inspiring Social Change

Napal Girl Censored
------ I believe this would impact social change greatly. With censoring the young girl, you are covering up the hard truth and reality of what people went through during the war, especially children. You would be taking away the pain and fear that was felt by every individual during the war.

Syrian Boy
------ This photo has impacted so many people from around the world already, so yes I believe it will and has impacted social change. It is a real eye-opener to see what people in places like Syria go through. To live with the fear each day of whether or not you'll be killed would be terrifying. And he is so young. Looking at the photo, it is as if he has grown accustomed to that sort of life, almost as if he has grown numb. No one, especially at that age, should feel that way.

#TeacherBae
------ This photo will impact social change for sure. This topic of women's bodies has been around for a long time already. No one can seem to grasp the fact that women's bodies are different. There's no doubt in my mind that if a caucasian teacher were to wear that same dress, nothing would be said. Even if the woman had the same body type. Do I think that dress was inappropriate for school? I honestly don't know. Her shoulders and chest were covered. The dress went to her knees. The only issue I would see would be the way the dress fit against her body. But that's it. She can't help the way her body is shaped. Do we expect teachers, or women in general, to wear baggy clothes with no expression of who they are? Where do we draw the line between freedom and expression?

Boy with Tutu
------ These types of photos and this topic has impacted social change. Many people believe that allowing boys to dress like girls, play with makeup, or dolls, etc is leading them down the "wrong" path. I think there are far worse things in the world than a young boy playing with his sisters barbies. And it's funny how no one really says anything about a girl playing in the mud with her brother or playing with trucks. Why is it that boys get so much more ridicule than girls?

Alicia Keys
------ Alicia Keys is greatly impacting social change with not wearing makeup. In today's society, beauty is thought highly of. If a girl doesn't have a certain look, then she is likely to be put down. If a girl decides to not wear makeup she is "gross." If a girl does wear makeup she is "try too hard." This goes back to expressing yourself and being who you want to be. When will it be okay to just be who you want to be and express yourself the way you want?

Acid Attack photos
------ This issue blows my mind and of course has a huge impact on social change. The pain I feel for these poor women who have experienced this type of torture is great. I can't imagine the fear women live with after seeing what could happen to them if they "do or say the wrong thing." The idea of someone to do that to another human being is beyond my belief. But the strength the women who have been victim to this horrendous crime is truly inspiring. It's something to live by and look up to for all ages.

------ The photo I chose to use was one of Ashley Graham, a plus-size model, who was used on the cover of Sports Illustrated. I chose this photo and article because women's bodies are having a huge impact on society today. Before plus-size models were looked down upon because of their bodies. The idea of having someone above a size 2 was absurd to think of, let alone a size 16. But times are changing and it's beautiful to see. With these changes young girls may not feel so out of place or ashamed of their body type as they used to be. They are being taught that its okay to have a bigger build or any build for that matter. I believe these models show that beauty isn't skin deep.
