This photo named "V-J Day" was taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt on August 14th, 1945, the day of the victory over Japan. The American sailor didn't actually know the woman. Emotions were just running in full force in Times Square after the victory that he felt the urge to kiss her. I just love this photograph because it represents so much. Happiness, how times were during the war, history, love, etc. It's an all-around beautiful moment to be captured.
I have taken many photos but this one would have to be one of my all-time favorites. I took this on July 26th, 2016 while I was kayaking in Pittsburgh before going to a Pirates game that evening. It was such an amazing experience to kayak there and take in such beautiful views.
Romance or sexual assault?
ReplyDelete"The bartenders had lined up glasses all along the bar and just kept pouring. “I popped quite a few drinks,” George says.
She isn’t sure how long she was standing there; maybe minutes. “And then I was grabbed,” she says. “That man was very strong. I wasn’t kissing him. He was kissing me.”"
Do you think if this were to happen today there would be a different result? The nurse was a refugee from Austria wondering where her parents were and if they were alive. Do you think she was feeling joy or just missing her parents and home?
Nevertheless, this is definitely an iconic photo with an interesting story.
